Michigan Better Kid Care Trainings are held at various times throughout the year and throughout the state. Click on the drop down links to the left of the Events Calendar link to see each month.
Listed below are a description of the types of trainings available:
One-time workshops
Covers a variety of topics such as Safe Sleep and SIDS, Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome, Promoting Early Literacy, Problem Solving with Children, Math for Every Age, Science for Young Thinkers, Improving Transition Times and many more!
36-hour Child Care Provider Training
Developed for those interested in becoming a licensed child care provider. Topics covered include: child development, child abuse and neglect, positive discipline, play and early learning, health and safety, nutrition, CPR and business basics.
18-hour Relative Care Provider and Day Care Aide Training
Developed for relative care providers and day care aides. Topics covered include: child development, positive discipline, health and safety, play and early learning, CPR, nutrition and putting it all together.
Online Training
Developed for providers that have an interest in online learning. Voice-guided PowerPoint presentations help providers understand key concepts, try demonstrations and extend learning into the child care setting. Topics include: Safe Sleep/SIDS, Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome and A Provider’s Guide to Early Literacy. Providers must fill out the evaluation questionnaire and receive a MSUE staff response in order to receive a completion certificate.
Mentoring and Support
All MiBKC participants have access to mentoring and support services offered by MSUE staff. These services can include additional one-on-one time on a particular topic, help gathering researched-based resources to use in the child care setting or answering questions about a specific child care topics.
