What is Michigan Better Kid Care (MiBKC)?
Michigan Better Kid Care (MiBKC) offers free and accessible options for child care providers to receive training. We provide training to current and potential regulated and unregulated childcare providers as well as parents, substitute parents, or any consumer of childcare services.

MiBKC Mission
Current and new childcare providers throughout Michigan will have access to high quality, evidence-based professional development through the MSU Extension network of county offices, MSU faculty and national affiliation of Cooperative State Research, Evaluation, and Extension Service (CSREES).
Types of Trainings Available:
One-time workshops
Covers a variety of topics such as Safe Sleep and SIDS, Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome, Promoting Early Literacy, Problem Solving with Children, Math for Every Age, Science for Young Thinkers, Improving Transition Times and many more!
36-hour Child Care Provider Training
Developed for those interested in becoming a licensed child care provider. Topics covered include: child development, child abuse and neglect, positive discipline, play and early learning, health and safety, nutrition, CPR and business basics.
18-hour Relative Care Provider and Day Care Aide Training
Developed for relative care providers and day care aides. Topics covered include: child development, positive discipline, health and safety, play and early learning, CPR, nutrition and putting it all together.
Online Training
Developed for providers that have an interest in online learning. Voice-guided PowerPoint presentations help providers understand key concepts, try demonstrations and extend learning into the child care setting. Topics include: Safe Sleep/SIDS, Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome and A Provider’s Guide to Early Literacy. Providers must fill out the evaluation questionnaire and receive a MSUE staff response in order to receive a completion certificate.
Independent Learning Kits
Developed for providers that would like to learn at their own pace. Modules are based on the Penn State Satellite series and cover a variety of topics. Providers must fill out an evaluation and short essay questions and return materials to MSUE staff for response in order to receive a completion certificate.
Mentoring and Support
All MiBKC participants have access to mentoring and support services offered by MSUE staff. These services can include additional one-on-one time on a particular topic, help gathering researched-based resources to use in the child care setting or answering questions about a specific child care topics.
